How I designed my portfolio
I wanted to give the impression that my portfolio was an art gallery where visitors can view my projects. Thematically, tt was a nice starting point that aligned with my appreciation towards minimalist design.
As I worked on this concept, I found myself thinking about a dissertation written by Hiroki Nakamura, founder of visvim, where he described designing a store “where customers could experience the product without any noise while still being comfortable.”
This store does not play music in order to create “a space where products would be showcased with a deliberate seriousness, an ambiance of subtle tension.” I applied this concept to my design by removing excess noise to allow the work to become the main focus.
Using this theme simplified the color palette to just shades of white and black, which minimized design decisions. I used custom CSS to design content blocks elevate my work like products in an art gallery.
