Every few years, I like to pop in and reflect on where I am, and where I’m going. Here’s some recent thoughts I’ve had:

Always be growing

I’ve spent a lot of time refining my process. While this helped me grow, it also made me dismissive toward new innovations if they didn’t fit neatly into my framework.

Design is an ever-changing discipline, so my process should evolve with it. I’m allowing myself to become a learner again – to stay curious, and open to new ways of doing things.

The human side of design

I’ve been drawn to projects that test my skills — the bigger, the better. I recently had a realization that I was drawn to them because I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. My practice became more about the solution than the user I was designing for.

Moving forward, I will be looking for opportunities to solve problems that align with my interests, or mission driven companies.
